Update from Iraq January 21, 2009
January 21, 2009
Hi everyone,
I’ve attached some photos of me flying in a Marine Osprey. It is a
plane that lands and takes off like a helicopter, but flies like a
plane. It actually comes to a stop in the air over the landing zone and
then comes straight down. It was quite an experience. I know, the
straight down part is generally not the kind of phrase you like to hear
used with a plane, but this one is supposed to do that!!!
Hope all of you are well. All continues to go well with me, but I’m
looking forward to my leave starting the beginning of May!!!
All take care and love you guys,
Kenny
Update from Iraq January 13, 2009
January 15, 2009
Hi, everybody. Yesterday I was invited by 5 Iraqi officers to promote
each to the next higher rank. I promoted a General, a Colonel, 2
Lieutenant Colonels, and a Lieutenant. After the reading of the orders,
it is the tradition in the Iraqi Army to pour candy over the heads of
those getting promoted. They even read an order promoting me to Staff
Brigadier General in the Iraqi Army!!! It was a really fun morning for
me and I was very honored to be asked to promote these outstanding men.
Hope you enjoy the photos. Love you guys, Kenny

Hi, all. I hope you all had a great holiday season and are having an
even better New Year. This past week I had the pleasure of escorting
the my governor, Rick Perry, around Iraq. Yes, I’ve been a resident of
Texas now for 10 years!!! I had a great time with him and truly enjoyed
traveling with him. He’s a great guy and is doing a fantastic job for
the folks in Texas. I’ve include a few pictures he sent me of the trip.

MICHAEL DEMOCKER/THE TIMES-PICAYUNEJeremy Shockey practiced with the Saints Tuesday afternoon.Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey practiced on Tuesday – at least the portion of the workout that was open to the media – the first time during training camp that he has been a participant on back-to-back days.
Aside from a visible lack of endurance, Shockey, who has seen his on-field practice time severely curtailed by his continued recovery from knee and foot injuries he sustained last year when he was with the New York Giants, seemed to be moving around unencumbered.
Shockey, who was obtained in a trade with the Giants just prior to the beginning of training camp, was expected to take part in his first game action Saturday night when the Saints travel to meet the Cincinnati Bengals, Coach Sean Payton said on Monday.
Also not participating in the portion of the practice that was open to the media was first-round draft choice Sedrick Ellis. The defensive tackle has an apparent ankle problem. He was riding a stationary bicycle, along with fellow DT Brian Young (foot), cornerback Usama Young (hamstring, though his left knee was wrapped) and wide receiver Adrian Arrington (turf toe).
Linebacker Mark Simoneau (back) also was not taking part in the drills, nor was safety Curome Cox, who was still rehabilitating his injured groin.
